Companies
The German media industry is characterised by a mix of traditional corporations, public broadcasters and innovative newcomers. At the top of the industry are giants such as Bertelsmann, Axel Springer, Funke, Bauer, Burda and ProSiebenSat.1 Media, which have a significant influence on the market.
Despite the dominance of large players, the industry is characterised by remarkable diversity. In addition to the well-known names, regional newspaper publishers also play an important role.
The public broadcasters ARD, the third programmes and ZDF share about half of the market with the private providers and make a significant contribution to the diversity of opinion. They are particularly dominant in the radio sector.
