Ostseewelle HIT-RADIO Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the most-listened-to private radio station in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and has established itself as the leading radio station in the state since its launch on June 1, 1995. With an audience share of 27.2 percent, the station ranks ahead of the public broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV.
The station offers a mix of current hit music, songs from the 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s, as well as regional news from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The program is broadcast live with moderation daily from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., supplemented by hourly news bulletins.
In 2010, the station reached the top position in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the first time, surpassing its private competitor Antenne MV and the public broadcaster NDR 1 Radio MV.
Notable is the scandal involving morning show host Marcus Japke. In May 2012, he was arrested during his live morning broadcast. He was accused of sexually abusing a girl—initially twelve years old—46 times between 2005 and 2008. Additionally, between 2008 and 2010, he and an accomplice manipulated Ostseewelle contests and fraudulently obtained 61,400 euros. A third charge involved fraudulent insolvency: although he was 520,000 euros in debt and filed for personal bankruptcy, between 2004 and 2011 he transferred a total of 736,415 euros to third-party accounts through intermediaries. Following his final conviction in 2016 to a total of five years imprisonment and the rejection of his appeal by the Federal Court of Justice in 2017, Japke began serving his sentence.

CEO
  • Tino Sperke

Tino Sperke, born on March 28, 1972 in Perleberg (Prignitz), began his radio career at BB Radio in Potsdam, where he worked in various capacities—from intern to editor and assistant to the program director, eventually becoming head of on-air promotion. In 2001, he developed the "Zockershow" for RTL2, a game show in which contestants risked their most valuable possessions—a concept that was submitted to and realized on Frank Elstner's show "Die neuen Fernsehmacher."
In September 2002, Sperke moved to Ostseewelle in Rostock, where he assumed the role of Managing Director and Program Director. At that time, the station was in a difficult position: with only 58,000 listeners in the average hour, Ostseewelle lagged far behind the competition. Sperke undertook a radical format overhaul. Rather than relying on conventional schlager, oldies, or pop formats, he developed a "program with edges and character," distinguished by irreverent hosts and a rock-pop music selection. Listener numbers doubled to 132,000 in the average hour. In 2010, Ostseewelle achieved market leadership in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern for the first time. Today, with a daily reach of over 380,000 listeners, the station is not only the most-listened-to private radio station in the state but also the most successful private radio station in all of eastern Germany, including Berlin.
With his unconventional approach and his ability to develop a "basement-level station" into a market leader, Tino Sperke is regarded as one of the most successful radio producers in eastern Germany.
