R.SH – Radio Schleswig-Holstein is Germany's first state-wide private radio station and began broadcasting in Kiel on July 1, 1986. It belongs to the Regiocast Group and is led by Rainer Poelmann and Dirk van Loh. With over 1.1 million daily listeners, R.SH is the most-listened-to station in Schleswig-Holstein. The programming consists of a mix of music, regional news, entertainment, and service information—complemented by podcasts and digital streams.


R.SH became known in part through the music award RSH-Gold and through social initiatives such as the "R.SH hilft helfen" (R.SH Helps Help) foundation, initiated by presenter Carsten Köthe. The station is available via FM, DAB+, web, and app and has shaped the northern German radio market for decades. With the slogan "Together We Are Schleswig-Holstein," R.SH emphasizes its regional connection.

R.SH Radio Schleswig-Holstein is a radio station operated by Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG. Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG is a major German radio company that operates over 20 radio stations. Regiocast has a complex shareholder structure with the Elstermann family and Fromm family each holding 12.6 percent as the largest shareholders. Additionally, Thomas Schaub (7.94%) and Sylvia Madsack (3.54%), both major media entrepreneurs in Germany, hold shares. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) also holds 4.08 percent, noteworthy given the party's participation in the federal government. Other notable shareholders from the German media owner environment hold minimal stakes below 0.1 percent in Regiocast, including Friede Springer, Mathias Döpfner, Ariane Melanie and Axel Sven Springer, the Funke family, the Burda family, and the Friedmann family.

  • Hermann Stümpert

    Hermann Stümpert is the second founder of the radio station R.SH. Stümpert took over as programme director after the station was founded and remained in this position for six years until 1991. 

    He had also worked in broadcasting prior to this. Between 1970 and 1985, Stümpert worked at Saarländischer Rundfunk, where he held various positions, including editor, entertainment director and programme planner. With the opening of the German radio market to private providers, he founded the station Radio Schleswig-Holstein (R.SH) in 1985. Stümpert then worked as a consultant for programme strategies at several private and public broadcasters. He was also a co-partner and, until 1997, managing director of BB Radio. In 1997, he founded Heureka! GmbH – an institute for product ideas and media concepts – and ran the company until his death in 2005.

  • Klaus Schmidt-Ulm

    Klaus Schmidt-Ulm was one of the two founders of the radio station R.SH. Together with Hermann Stümpert, he established the first private nationwide radio station. After the station was founded, he also served as managing director of the company.

    Rainer Poelmann is Managing Director of Radio PSR and simultaneously one of the managing directors/chairmen of the Regiocast Group, which consolidates numerous private radio stations and audio holdings. He brings decades of experience in radio broadcasting (including stations such as Radio SAW) and leads strategic management of sales and shareholdings at Regiocast.
