Radio PSR ("Private Saxon Radio") is a significant private radio station based in Leipzig. Since its launch on July 1, 1992, it established itself as the first private broadcaster in the new German states and is today considered a major player in the Saxon radio market. With a daily reach of approximately 950,000 listeners and over 15.9 million weekly contacts, Radio PSR ranks among the most-listened-to private stations in Saxony.


The programming is a diverse full-service format focused on entertainment, music, and regional information: in addition to current hit music, the station offers regular news, weather and traffic information, and comedy formats.


The station is owned by Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH, part of the REGIOCAST Group; management is headed by Rainer Poelmann, with programming direction under Torsten Birenheide. Particularly noteworthy are presenters such as Steffen Lukas, whose comedy formats have been awarded with the German Radio Prize multiple times, and Hajo Wilken, who has long served as a news anchor at PSR.

Radio PSR is operated by Privater Sächsischer Rundfunk GmbH. This is a wholly owned subsidiary of Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG. Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG is a major German radio operator that runs over 20 radio stations. Regiocast has a complex shareholder structure with the Elstermann family and Fromm family each holding 12.47 percent as the largest shareholders. Additionally, shareholders include Thomas Schaub (7.94%), Stephan Graf von Bothmer (4,5%), and the Heinrich family (6,35%) and Sylvia Madsack (3.54%), both representing major German media companies. The Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) also holds 4.08 percent, noteworthy given the party's participation in the federal government. Other notable shareholders from the German media owner environment hold minimal stakes below 0.1 percent in Regiocast, including Friede Springer, Mathias Döpfner, Ariane Melanie and Axel Sven Springer, the Funke family, the Burda family, and the Friedmann family.

  • Erwin Linnenbach

    Erwin Linnenbach is considered one of the formative figures in the German radio market. For many years, he was involved in the establishment and management of stations such as Radio PSR and R.SA. He was also instrumental in the founding of Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG, which has developed into one of Germany's leading radio and audio companies. At Regiocast, Linnenbach long served as managing director spokesperson and made significant contributions to the company's strategic direction.

    Torsten Birenheide has served as Programming Director (Programmchef) of Radio PSR since early 2018 and bears responsibility for the editorial programming of Saxony's most-listened-to private station. Since September 2021, he has additionally held the position of "Senior Director AC" at Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG, in which he coordinates the further development of the company's AC live programs with a focus on digital utilization. Birenheide studied political science and brings more than two decades of experience in the radio industry. Prior to Radio PSR, he served for seven years as Programming Director of the Brandenburg station BB Radio and simultaneously oversaw programming for Radio Teddy from 2010 onwards. His radio career began following his studies as a news anchor and progressed through diverse positions ranging from morning show producer to editor-in-chief. Birenheide has received numerous awards, including the German Radio Prize.
