Television

The TV landscape in Germany is characterised by a dual system of public and private broadcasters. In total, viewers can choose from over 145 television channels.

The most important public broadcasters include Das Erste (ARD) and ZDF, as well as the regional ‘third programmes’. The private broadcasters are dominated by the RTL and ProSiebenSat.1 media groups.

In recent years, the average time spent watching television in Germany has decreased. Younger target groups in particular are increasingly using streaming services and video portals.
