Müller Medien

The Müller Media Group traces its origins to Hans Müller, who founded the company in 1950 as Telefonbuch Verlag Hans Müller (Hans Müller Telephone Directory Publishing). From 1962 onwards, Müller's grandson Gunther Oschmann led the company and significantly expanded operations, particularly in regional radio and specialized media. Since 2003, Michael and Constanze Oschmann have managed the company in the third generation, directing investments through subsidiaries primarily toward digital start-ups in online portals and ad-targeting. All company shares remain within the Oschmann family: Gunther Oschmann holds 1%, while Constanze and Michael each hold 49.5%.
The telephone and directory publishing business remains the core operation, operating under brands including "Das Örtliche," "Gelbe Seiten," and "Sellwerk.de." The company also maintains business divisions in broadcasting, book publishing, and new media, with operations across Europe, the USA, and Asia. Müller Media holds stakes in approximately 60 regional radio stations, with particular concentration in the Bavarian market. Notable holdings include Neue Welle Franken, Radio FFH, and Studio Gong. The company also operates regional television stations such as Bayern TV and Ingolstadt TV. The company briefly expanded into regional print media with the 2010 acquisition of Nürnberger AZ, then Germany's longest-running tabloid, but discontinued print operations in 2012.
Gunther Oschmann maintained close ties to the CSU party and was active in Bavarian local politics. He intervened in editorial coverage at his regional stations and the newspaper Nürnberger AZ to favor more positive reporting of CSU members. Oschmann was also implicated in a private loan scandal involving the Bavarian Institute for New Media (BLM), in which he provided a 30,000-euro loan to the BLM chairman for private house construction. The matter resulted in no consequences; in 2024, Oschmann received the BLM's lifetime achievement award. Michael and Constanze Oschmann manage Müller Media GmbH with limited public visibility while also operating as investors and start-up founders. Notable ventures include gutefrage.net, mittelstand-markthalle.de, and SELLWERK.
