Stefan Graf von Bothmer

The von Bothmer family, alongside the Köser family, is one of two principal shareholder families of Nordwest-Zeitung Verlagsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG. Count Stephan von Bothmer, great-grandson of Nordwest-Mediengruppe founder Fritz Bock, holds approximately 49.95% of the company.
Nordwest Mediengruppe operates as a regional publisher in northwest Lower Saxony and holds stakes in several radio stations in Lower Saxony, Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Saxony-Anhalt, and Berlin through its subsidiary NWZ Funk und Fernsehen GmbH & Co. KG.
Count Stephan von Bothmer was involved in antitrust proceedings regarding undisclosed stakes in the Ostfriesland newspaper group. In 2008, the Federal Cartel Office imposed a fine of €2.5 million against the group and ordered divestment of unlawfully acquired stakes.Nordwest Mediengruppe's operations extend beyond newspapers and broadcasting into distribution and holding companies with involvement in logistics and real estate.
In September 2025, it was announced that Nordwest-Zeitung would be sold by NWZ Mediengruppe to Madsack Group, effective January 2026. Through this transaction, Count Stephan von Bothmer will divest a significant portion of his stakes in the print business.
