The Döser family

The Döser family has been involved in regional media ownership in southeast Upper Bavaria for decades. The family's media business originated with Alfons Döser (born 1938), who served as managing director and principal shareholder of Wendelstein Verlag and as publisher of Oberbayerisches Volksblatt. His father also worked in the regional publishing sector in Rosenheim, though this is sparsely documented publicly.

Under Alfons Döser's leadership, Wendelstein Verlag established a dominant market position in southeast Bavarian regional newspapers. Oberbayerisches Volksblatt, serving the Rosenheim and Traunstein regions, became the group's flagship publication and held a dominant position in those areas. In addition to local radio stations such as Radio Charivari, Döser also acquired a stake in Münchner Zeitungs-Verlag, publisher of Münchner Merkur and tz. From his entry in 1982 until 2003, Alfons Döser served as publisher of both Münchner Merkur and tz.

Since 2003, his sons Oliver and Thomas Döser have led OVB Mediengruppe, which now encompasses regional newspapers, online portals, marketing agencies, and property investments. The next generation is already involved in the company.
Oliver Döser serves as managing director and publisher overseeing all operations of OVB Medienhaus, with focus on print media including stakes in Münchner Zeitungs-Verlag. Thomas Döser manages radio operations, including Radio Charivari and Funkhaus Rosenheim. Shares in Wendelstein Verlag (Oberbayerisches Volksblatt) and MBG Medienholding (Waldecker Landeszeitung, Hersfelder Zeitung, 5.6% stake in Ippen Digital Media GmbH & Co. KG) are split 50/50 between the brothers.

Nicolas Döser, son of Oliver Döser, joined OD Holding as managing director in 2024, signaling the next generational transition. Previously, he served as managing director of the startup "Scouty," an online platform matching film locations in the United Kingdom and Germany.
