Familie Fromm refers to the community of heirs consisting of Andreas Fromm, Johanna Bruns-Fromm, their son Nicolas Fromm, and Maximilian Pfeil. They are the children and grandchildren of Leo Victor Fromm, the founding editor of Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung (NOZ). The community of heirs owns 100% of L.V. Fromm GmbH, which in turn holds 50% of Neue Osnabrücker Zeitungs GmbH & Co. KG.


Additionally, they own 50% of shares in NOZ Medien Holding GmbH, through which they in turn hold stakes in more than two dozen other companies. Through the media companies listed below, the Fromm family maintains connections to more than 70 medium and small local newspapers, weekly publications, magazines, and online portals. These are located primarily in Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein. The printed daily newspapers of NOZ/mh:n MEDIEN media group have a daily circulation of approximately 270,000 copies.


Medien holding:nord GmbH, which holds 25 percent of shares in Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NOZ Medien Verlags GmbH, which in turn is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NOZ Medien Holding. Furthermore, through the stake in Regiocast GmbH & Co. KG, there are holdings in various (local) radio stations. In 1998, Leo Victor Fromm also established a foundation intended to serve "the advancement and dissemination of language (...) in scientific or cultural ways."


NOZ and its online edition regularly report on the Fromm Foundation as well as individual members of the Fromm family, though it is not always made clear that these reports concern the newspaper's owners

  • Leo Victor Fromm (1924-2001)
    was the founding editor of the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung. He was the publisher of the Neue Tagespost, which merged with the Osnabrücker Tageblatt of the Menders & Elstermann publishing house in 1967. This resulted in the Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung, which has since been owned by the two publishing families Fromm and Elstermann. The second founding publisher was Elisabeth Elstermann.
