The Oschmann family

The Oschmann publishing family is regarded as one of Germany's most influential media entrepreneurs. Müller Media is involved in a total of 60 regional radio stations, with business concentrated particularly strongly in the Bavarian market. The most prominent holdings include Antenne Bayern, Radio Charivari, and Studio Gong. Müller Media also operates regional television stations such as Bayern TV and Ingolstadt TV. With the acquisition of Nürnberger AZ - then Germany's longest-running tabloid - in 2010, the company briefly expanded into regional print media but discontinued operations in 2012.
The Müller Media Group traces its origins to Hans Müller, who founded the family business in 1950 as Telefonbuch Verlag Hans Müller (Hans Müller Telephone Directory Publishing). The Müller Media house has always been managed as a family enterprise - particularly patriarch Gunther Oschmann (born 1940 in Nuremberg) built it into a corporate group with stakes in over 60 regional television and radio operators in Germany and Austria as well as newspaper and book publishers. From 2003 onwards, his children Michael and Constanze assumed operational management; Gunther Oschmann remains a shareholder with 1%.
Gunther Oschmann was considered close to the CSU party and was actively involved in Bavarian local politics - including through influencing editorial coverage at his regional media outlets to favor more positive reporting of CSU members. A 2011 report in Nürnberger AZ about the rap career of the son of then-Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann was never published, with reference to "the good relations between the Oschmann and Herrmann families."
Oschmann was also implicated in a private loan scandal involving the Bavarian Institute for New Media (BLM), in which he provided a 30,000-euro loan to the BLM chairman for private house construction. The matter resulted in no consequences - in 2024, Gunther Oschmann received the BLM's lifetime achievement award.
Michael and Constanze Oschmann manage Müller Media GmbH with limited public visibility while simultaneously operating as venture capital investors and start-up founders in the digital sector. Notable holdings include gutefrage.net, mittelstand-markthalle.de, and SELLWERK.
