The Rempel family

The Rempel family is a mid-sized publishing dynasty based in Giessen with decades of experience in printing and publishing. Brothers Max and Jan-Eric Rempel each hold 42.5% of Mittelhessische Druck- und Verlagsgesellschaft mbH (MDV). The company directly publishes newspapers including Gießener Anzeiger and Bad Vilbeler Anzeiger. Through MDV, the family also holds 20% of shares in Zeitungsholding Hessen (ZHH), which includes Mediengruppe Frankfurt, Frankfurter Rundschau, Frankfurter Neue Presse, and numerous regional editions. Additionally, the family holds 18% of Pressehaus Bintz, which publishes Offenbacher Post.
Dr. Max Rempel, born in 1979, holds a doctorate in economics and has served as managing director of MDV, Frankfurter Verlags Societät, and Mediengruppe Frankfurt since 2011. He also serves as editor-in-chief of Gießener Allgemeine Zeitung.
Other family members oversee additional operational divisions—Dr. Jan Eric Rempel, for instance, manages the printing division and the group's trade fair business. He is also closely connected to Dirk Ippen's media empire, serving as managing director of Westfälische Anzeiger GmbH and holding positions in Anzeiger Verlag Soest GmbH. However, MDV remains the family's central media operation, although the majority stake (80 percent) belongs to Ippen Group.
Within the media sector, the Rempel family serves as shareholders and managers in several organizations, including digital services, radio operations such as Radio FFH and Antenne Thüringen, and advertising sales. Beyond newspaper publishing, the family operates in other economic sectors, including real estate and corporate publishing.
