Yvonne Bauer

Yvonne Bauer is the publisher and CEO of Bauer Media Group, officially Heinrich Bauer Verlags KG, one of Germany's largest and oldest media conglomerates. The Hamburg-based publishing house, founded in 1875 by lithographer Johann Andreas Ludolph Bauer, has operated for 140 years and ranks among Germany's oldest publishers. The company operates in twelve countries across multiple continents and generates annual revenue of approximately 2.2 billion euros (2022) with approximately 12,000 employees.
Bauer Media Group operates across print, digital, radio, and television sectors, publishing over 600 magazines, more than 400 digital products, and operating approximately 50 radio and television stations. Core business consists of magazines and increasingly digital offerings. The company operates influential media brands across segments including women's interest, entertainment, health, television, food, and special interest publications such as Cosmopolitan, TV Hören und Sehen, Closer, and Grazia (United Kingdom). Through the breadth and distribution of its media properties, Bauer significantly shapes public opinion across several European countries.
Yvonne Bauer has been with the company since 2005 and assumed control in 2010, following in the footsteps of her father Heinz Heinrich Bauer, who transferred management responsibility and 85% of the company's shares to her as a limited partner (Kommanditistin). Her father remains with the company as a personally liable general partner (persönlich haftender Komplementär). Heinz Heinrich Bauer, who led the company from 1984 to 2010 as sole managing director in the fourth generation of the Bauer family, developed the enterprise into a global player before transferring leadership to his daughter.
Yvonne Bauer has three siblings – Mirja, Nicola, and Saskia – who each hold 5% stakes in the group. Nicola Bauer, long regarded as a leading candidate to succeed her father, served in the 2000s as editor-in-chief of two major Bauer publications: Life&Style and InTouch. Since 2014, Yvonne Bauer has been married to television producer Enno Koch.
In recent years, Bauer has implemented significant cost-reduction measures across its magazine and newspaper operations, despite stable revenues. Since 2024, all magazines for the German market are produced from a centralized editorial desk. The company has also expanded into out-of-home advertising, particularly following the acquisition of Clear Channel Europe in 2025, and invests in digital platforms, online comparison portals, and marketing services.
